Some of Louisiana’s medically fragile children desperately need foster families to assist with medical needs that require special care. Methodist Foster Care is Louisiana’s largest and most innovative therapeutic foster care agency. We are actively recruiting nurses and other healthcare personnel to open their homes for these children.
Medically Fragile Children
Children who require special medical care are typically younger but range in age from birth through 18. They are experiencing moderate to severe medical conditions that may result from abuse or neglect.
While they require care based on their specific medical needs, they can live in a home with outpatient care. We aim to help medically fragile children live in homes instead of hospitals and facilities. The conditions of children in medical foster care may improve, be it long-term or even terminal.
Among children’s medical conditions in medical foster care are premature birth and related complications, postnatal substance dependency, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, respiratory difficulties, wound care, and other medical conditions.
Can You Help?
Methodist Foster Care recruits, trains, certifies, and supports nurses who will provide therapeutic foster homes for children with medical needs. If you can help, please complete the form below, and we will contact you to answer your questions about becoming a foster caregiver.
Indeed, individuals without professional medical training can provide care for medically fragile children, and caring for a fragile child in foster care does not require medical education or career experience in nursing. However, by serving as foster families or respite families, we believe individuals with experience in healthcare can provide significant benefits for medically fragile children.
